Self Defence

Break Away, Self Defence/Safe Escape Training

At the Tae Kwon-Do School of Excellence we offer 3 levels of Self Defence Training:

If you're reading this page, you've taken the first step to taking control of your safety. Self defence is more than fighting off an attacker. The most valuable tool we can teach you is to prepare yourself before you are attacked. The most important thing to remember is that safety is a state of mind. You must train your mind and your body. Our self-defence courses do not rely on martial arts techniques, but instead focuses on practical safety techniques and comprehensive self defence techniques that will empower you if you are attacked.

The Tae Kwon-Do School of Excellence believes that self defence should be easy to learn, easy to retain, and relatively easy to employ during real confrontational situations. We are passionate about people's right to feel safe and that everyone should empower themselves with sensible, highly effective and easy to remember techniques, an essential life skill in today's society. This empowerment allows people to give themselves the opportunity and choice of self-protection should they find themselves in a violent situation.

You do not need to have any martial arts experience to learn our self-defence skills. The courses we offer are specifically designed for the everyday woman, man or student and cover a variety of important topics such as: personal safety talk & safety in your daily life; assertiveness; victim mentality; understanding the violent mind; how to handle aggression; identification of risk situations & their avoidance; drug rape awareness; as well as a range of easy to remember and highly effective physical self-defense techniques.

1. Basic Physical Defence

This is a physically orientated course structured to teach techniques in a relaxed, informal manner and has its foundations in education and awareness. The course is designed in such a way that anyone can take part regardless of age, strength, sex, or disability. The advantages of the training are the simplicity of the techniques taught and the emphasis on technique, not strength.

The course includes lecture, discussion and self defense techniques, suitable for women, men and children of all ages and abilities. Classes range from eight to twelve hours in length, depending on the Instructor.

2. Advanced Physical Defence

Builds on techniques and strategies from the Basic class, and adds defences against the edged weapon. This program also covers more prone defence strategies, multiple subject encounters and even low and diffused light simulation exercises. Minimum of eight hours, twelve with simulation, for participants who have already completed the Basic Physical Defense Program.

3. Ladies Only Self Defence

Reality is that 1 in 4 women will suffer a sexual assault in her lifetime. This is indeed a frightening statistic! Women, men and children around the world are often heard to say: “I wouldn’t know what to do, I am not a fighter. In an attack situation I will give in and pray that I come out with as little harm as possible to myself and hopefully I am still alive.”

The truth is that most people have this view not because they cannot defend themselves but because they just do not know how to defend themselves. The good news is that research shows that 80% of women who fight back get out of a situation! Do you feel confident that you have the skills to fight back? If not, try our ladies only self-defence courses.

The 2 courses are similar to the above but address self defence from a slightly different perspective as would be attackers approach women slightly differently as they do men. Completing our self-defence course will provide you with a choice of self-protection skills that may prevent a rape, sexual assault or even save your life.
